Toto Carlyle II – S300e

Summary

The Toto Carlyle II – S300e is a sleek unit with a one-piece tank design and an elongated seat for maximum comfort. Utilizing Toto’s Tornado Flush technology, water is ejected in two jet streams upon flushing, cleaning all waste from the sides of the bowl using the power of gravity.

The bowl is also treated with CeFiONtect™ technology, which is Toto’s signature ceramic glaze that provides an ultra-smooth finish to the bowl. This reduces the amount of mold and bacteria collecting on the sides of the bowl, which in turn means cleaning is required less often.

The unit also comes with eWater+ technology which cleans the bowl with electrolysed water. This keeps the bowl germ-free and hygienic at all times. The flush uses 1.28 gallons of water each time, exceeding the EPA WaterSense standards, but flushing is not automatic.

Finally, the unit is sold with a compatible washlet with all the necessary hi-tech functions. These include an automated seat which opens and closes based on movement, a heated seat, adjustable washlet settings, and an air-deodorizing system.

The Good

  • The Tornado Flush cleans the toilet automatically after use. Paired with CeFiONtect and ewater+ technology, this makes it durable enough for commercial use as it can be kept clean and hygienic with minimal effort and manpower.
  • Water-saving feature uses a 1.28-gallon flush, using much less water than traditional models. This also results in a smaller and more aesthetically-pleasing water tank
  • CeFiONtect™ ceramic glazing creates a very smooth surface that helps keep this Toto cleaner for longer
  • The unit is made at universal toilet height, which is familiar to most users

The Bad

  • Less automation than in some Japanese style toilets (you are required to manually flush)
  • The unit is only compatible with the unique washlet, making finding a replacement difficult should replacing be required

Bottom line

The Carlyle II maintains the classical look of a toilet, while the attached washlet unit provides most of the comforts of a hi-tech Japanese style toilet. The self-cleaning functions and technologies require little manual cleaning, and the water-saving flush helps to save the environment (and a little cost too!). On the flip side, the unit does not automatically flush, and the unique washlet may also be hard to replace if broken.
